The Miracle Of Mindfulness: The Classic Guide to Meditation by the World's Most Revered Master (Classic Edition) Kindle Edition
In this beautifully written book, Buddhist monk and Nobel Peace Prize nominee Thich Nhat Hanh explains how to acquire the skills of mindfulness. Once we have these skills, we can slow our lives down and discover how to live in the moment - even simple acts like washing the dishes or drinking a cup of tea may be transformed into acts of meditation.
Thich Nhat Hanh's gentle anecdotes and practical exercises help us to arrive at greater self-understanding and peacefulness, whether we are beginners or advanced students. Irrespective of our particular religious beliefs, we can begin to reap the immense benefits that meditation has been scientifically proven to offer. We can all learn how to be mindful and experience the miracle of mindfulness for ourselves.

About the author

Thich Nhat Hanh (1926–2022) was a Vietnamese Buddhist Zen Master, poet, and peace activist and one of the most revered and influential spiritual teachers in the world. Born in 1926, he became a Zen Buddhist monk at the age of sixteen. His work for peace and reconciliation during the war in Vietnam moved Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1967. In Vietnam, Thich Nhat Hanh founded Van Hanh Buddhist University and the School of Youth for Social Service, a corps of Buddhist peace workers. Exiled as a result of his work for peace, he continued his humanitarian efforts, rescuing boat people and helping to resettle refugees. In 1982 he established Plum Village France, the largest Buddhist monastery in Europe and the hub of the international Plum Village Community of Engaged Buddhism. Over seven decades of teaching, he published a hundred books, which have been translated into more than forty languages and have sold millions of copies worldwide.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2014As a relative beginner in meditative practice, and the teachings of Buddhism, I found this first book I've read by Thich Nhat Hanh, to be very useful. I learned a lot and will read more books by him. There were a number of insights I gained which I am trying to put into practice. To give just one example, viewing the time you have to devote to family, not as time you are giving up, but as your own time, which leads you to have unlimiteted time for yourself.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2015I found this book to be a little over the top with mindfulness, feeling it shamed people out of their natural tendency to dream and hope. However, I do think about the concepts and find value in "washing the dishes to wash the dishes."
- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2023I love the simplicity and ease with which Thich Nhat Hanh wrote. He made the world a better place. Must read!

This book is a real uplift for those who know they need some help and for those who don't.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life time textbook
This book is truly fascinating. I believe it contains some of the most important words I’ve ever read in my life. The reason is simple: these words give me a sense of mental freedom.
I am a very busy businessman, and I constantly feel immense pressure. Since many projects depend on me, I often carry a heavy burden of responsibility. Right now, I live in Geneva, an incredibly international environment. While this is an exciting experience, it also comes with significant pressure. My heart rate is usually over 100, and sometimes it even reaches 120. That’s quite high. I realized I needed to find a way to calm myself. I was searching for a skill to help me relax, and that’s when I discovered this book.
Before reading it and learning about meditation, I was quite skeptical. I thought meditation was something doubtful, something uncertain. But when I followed the book’s guidance and tried meditation for myself, it opened up a completely new horizon—one I had never experienced before. In that moment, I felt a true sense of mental freedom, something I had never known until then.
